TGIF! (Yes, I'm kind of late putting this up)

Oh my! I am soooo glad today is Friday & we have a 3 day weekend! Lol

If you are anything like me, I'm always rushing out the door & running behind :) I definitely have to put my 'face' on quickly! This is one of my go to quick looks I use during the week...

Products used:
Cover FX cream foundation
Real Techniques expert face brush (LOVE this!)
Mary Kay fluid eye color Pearl (Art of Nature limited Ed. Collection)
Mary Kay brow defined pencil - soft black
M.A.C creme lipstick - Pretty Please
Mary Kay loose powder - Ivory 2
Mary Kay Face brush
Eco-tools flat shader brush
L'Oreal Double Extend tube w/ lash boosting serum
Sally Hansen eyelash curler
Hard Candy's Nobody's Perfect concealer palette

Seriously - I get ready (shower, hair, dress & makeup) in 40 min or less. Super easy & yet still creates a polishe look without much makeup.

The foundation & loose powder, I only focus on the 'T' zone for everyday looks - so not using a whole lot of product.

Hope this helps gets your creativity going!

Craft Time!

While getting ready for my friend's photo-shoot, I jumped into creating some fun accessories for her to use if she would like to.
I LOVE anything by Free People - I've been in love with the boho chic style for ages! So, I created a floral braided headband inspired by the following FP braided halo:

Here's mine:

Love it! She totally used it for her shoot! It was super easy to make & didn't take much time!

Materials used
Old white t-shirt (men's Hanes undershirt)
Scissors
Flower heads of your choice
Wooden beads
Chain
O-rings
Lobster clasp
Hot glue gun
Jewelry wire
Needle nose pliers

Directions

1. Cut the arms from the t-shirt along the seams - then cut up the side seam of the shirt so it now can lay flat with both sides next to each other.

2. Depending how big you want it determines how much fabric you need. I just winged it. I cut 1 large strip from the shirt & then cut 3 single strips from it. (not too thin since this material stretches - you want a little bulk)

3. Making sure they are all the same length, take one end & tie a knot (just like you're making a friendship bracelet. It holds the pieces together etc.) & begin braiding. (make sure you leave some length to the end pieces so you can create the clasp area)

4. When you have braided the 'rope' to the length you want it, tie off the end of the braid with a knot. Cut off some of the excess fabric from both ends of the braid.

5. Taking some jewelry wire, begin wrapping around one end of the braid to bind the fabric together - this keeps it in place & by tightening it, you can easily slip the end into a bead instead of trying to force 3 single strands through a bead. Don't forget at the top of the wire after you have finished wrapping, create a small loop & trim off excess. This will be where the o-ring is connected.

6. Taking any type of bead (got these at Walmart & I used them because they were pretty thick so they would cover the wire nicely) slide (or twist in) the wired scraps through the hole of the bead. The bead should fit snugly with the little loop of wire barely peeking through the opposite end.

7. Taking an o-ring & attach to the loop that should barely be sticking out of the bead. Repeat on other side.

8. Using a chain (I used silver but you can use gold too) attach how ever much length you would like to one side (to one o-ring). This will allow you to adjust the head piece if you would like.

9. On the opposite side of the head piece, attach a lobster clasp.

10. Try on & voila! You're finished!
Love it! She totally used it for her shoot! It was super easy to make & didn't take much time!

Sandals vs. Flip Flops...ultimate show down

Ok - so I think it's safe to say most fashionistas know the difference between these two foot wear choices. The reason I bring this up is because 'Corporate' decided they want to throw certain types of sandals into the flip flop category making them inappropriate in the work place. I'm sending a BIG BS out on that.
This particular employee handbook has divided examples into "acceptable" & unacceptable. Flip Flops fall under unacceptable - however, the handbook clearly states "sandals may be worn other than flip flops".

Dictionary.com
Flip flops:
"any backless, usually open-toed flat shoe or slipper"
"a flat, backless rubber sandal, usually secured on the foot by a thong between the first two toes"

Sandals
"a shoe consisting of a sole of leather or other material fastened to the foot by thongs or straps"
"any various low shoes or slippers"
"a light, low rubber overshoe covering only the front part of a woman's high heeled shoe"
"a band or strap that fastens a low shoe or slipper on the foot by passing over the instep or around the ankle"

A little bit of history from wiki:
Flip flops were fashioned after Japanese footwear (zoris) held onto the foot by 2 thongs that rise from the side of sole, meet & attach to the sole between the 1st & 2nd toe.
Sandals is footwear based on the type worn in the Roman Empire. Usually manufactured of leather, held onto the foot by several thongs across the instep & strap behind & above the heel.

Now I can understand the confusion - many similarities between the two - but when applying to a "rule", I don't think what is written should contradict what is being said as the "law". It has been decided that ANY shoe that has a thong between the toes will be considered a 'flip flop'. Um...do we not see the problem here? And yes, this isn't necessarily a MAJOR deal but it is the principal that irritates me. Either sandals are acceptable or not...just saying.

Below are pictures of the two different styles of shoes...can you tell which is a flip flop & which is a sandal? To me it is clear. What do you think?

WTF Wednesday

May has definitely been a month for splurging...and I really need to stop! LOL
But, I have gotten so many fun things!

This was my splurge in the 'big city' an hour away from my hometown! LOL Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua, 30 Beige - $48.00 Yes, this was definitely a splurge - but there is nothing like a Chanel foundation - it creates a matte & flawless finish without using a lot of product

Ulta Fix: Real Techniques Expert Face Brush & Katy Perry 'Oh Honey!' eye lashes - I spent $17! That's the cheapest I have gotten out of Ulta!

MAC Chenman Collection...Can't remember the name, will have to update later - but this is a GORGEOUS Blue! So pigmented & yummy!

MAC Pro Longwear Eye shadow - Tease with Ease - a beautiful fuschia!

Maybelline 24 hr Color Tattoo - very impressed

I decided I would like to try Rimmel & I also purchased a L'Oreal HIP color chrome eyeliner in a beautiful metallic gold finish - can't wait to try out!

Art of Nature Fluid eye color review

I have to say that in very impressed with this limited edition collection. Pictures do not do it justice (at least not from my iPhone) but today I'm wearing the rainforest color. It's a very pretty neutral undertone with vivid sparkles that to me, they appear a little green. The best I can describe this color is its very warm taupe-y color. It goes in nicely & once it sets, it set! As with any creamy type products, you do have to work pretty quickly I blend & all that.
I wore it all day yesterday & loved it! It didn't crease or smudge at all! You should check out the collection - especially those who like minimal makeup :)
